Blog Post #1: Thriving at 74: It’s Not About Your Genes, It’s About Your Choices

November 11, 2025

Let’s get one thing straight from the start: vibrant health is not a lucky hand you’re dealt. It’s a deck you build yourself, card by conscious card.

I’m 74. I enjoy vibrant health, take zero pharmaceuticals, and feel more alive and authentic than I did in my 30s. I share this not as a boast, but as a living testament to possibility. This wasn’t my genetic destiny—in fact, looking at the conventional path of aging, my reality feels almost rebellious. And I suppose it is.

I’ve come to believe that health isn’t a default setting determined by our biology. Instead, it’s a logical, beautiful outcome of learning how to live in a way that minimizes toxins and maximizes life on every level. Once this truth clicks in your soul, it all becomes simple. Not always easy, but beautifully, powerfully simple.

The “Simple” That Requires a 5-Gallon Bucket

Of course, what’s simple for a “Mountain Wellness Wayshower” living semi-off-grid might look… unconventional to the modern world.

When I travel, it’s an operation. I drive to avoid the toxic cocktail of planes and airports. My car isn’t packed with luggage; it’s packed with life. Multiple containers of my Home Brewed Holy Water, a hot water heater, and yes, a 5-gallon bucket. This isn’t for camping; it’s for bathing. I pour my own pure, toxin-free water over my head to wash (well, the shampoo might not get as rinsed as in a shower, but it’s good enough!). I brush my teeth with it, and I cook and wash my dishes in it.

I bring my own organic food and my little personal cookers. My approach to food is rooted in 100% organic, plant-based ingredients, with some raw Manuka honey and whey protein for extra nourishment. My days are built around two main meals: a foundational green smoothie filled with a variety of fruits, greens, superfoods, and always a hint of organic chocolate, followed by a large serving of primarily vegetables—and sometimes whole grains—cooked in my Home Brewed Holy Water. I see this as a tangible way to honor my body with deep nourishment, following the rhythm of intermittent fasting.

The result? Other than one trip I took on an airplane where I ended up with a little cold afterwards, I can’t remember the last time I was sick. I never had “covid.” My body, freed from the daily burden of processing synthetic chemicals, can simply focus on thriving.

My Toolkit: Nature, Not the Pharmacy

My medicine cabinet is my homestead. When little imbalances arise, I turn to the oldest pharmacies on Earth:

  • Organic herbs and essential oils

  • The moving meditation of Tai Chi and Qigong

  • The healing light of red light therapy

  • And yes, some ancient and unusual practices, like daily urotherapy, which I learned from the unconventional and brilliant natural health thought leader, Dr. Ed Group.

I routinely do a variety of cleanses, including weekly liver cleanses I’ve been doing for over a year. I make 100% of my own personal care and household products. This isn’t just about purity; it’s a profound act of connection and sovereignty. There’s a grounded satisfaction in using a balm or a cleaner you crafted with your own hands from ingredients you trust deeply.

Happiness on the Mountain

I live with my little doggie angels, high on a mountain in Western NC, surrounded not by humans, but by ancient trees and wildlife—beings who instinctively know how to care for themselves without stores or tools. The veil to the Divine feels thin up here. I feel God’s presence in the sunlight and the silence, a guiding force in my daily life.

Am I ever lonely? Sometimes, for sure. The soul does yearn for deep human connection. And yet, I have learned to fill that space with something else: a steady diet of the natural and the Divine. The result is a richness and fulfillment I never found in the bustling corporate world or a more conventional life. I am more purely me, more centered, and more at peace than I have ever been.

Your Turn to Build Your Deck

My journey hasn’t been a straight line. I’ve taken detours. There was a time, decades ago, when I was less secure in my own truth. For a few years, I allowed myself to be swayed by conventional habits—in my case, it was adopting a standard American diet that never truly harmonized with my soul. I felt the drag in my energy, my clarity, and my spirit. Returning to my natural, organic lifestyle wasn’t just about changing my food; it was a homecoming to myself.

That experience was my living proof. It showed me, tangibly, that our state of being is not fixed. When I changed my choices, my body and my life responded. Now, at 74, I am living testament that the body’s natural state is one of vitality, when we learn to listen and support it.

I share this not as a prescription, but as proof.

If I can leave you with two thoughts:

  1. It is never too late to remember who you are. If you feel a disconnect from your vitality or a sense that there must be a better way, you are right. You can clean up the toxins—in your food, your environment, and your thoughts—and reconnect with a vibrancy you may have forgotten was possible.

  2. A fulfilling, vibrant life is doable, on your own terms. You don’t need a mountain to start. You just need the belief that a different way is possible, and the rebel spirit to take the first step toward your own sovereignty.

You can do this. Your body and your spirit are waiting for you to listen.
